My daughter got married in Estes Park last October. Kellie met Mark online, as is common among young people today. Their wedding was a beautiful celebration held on the driving range at the Estes Park Golf Course.
Kellie loves everything bright and couldn’t settle on just one color theme—so she had a rainbow wedding! With seven colors in the rainbow, she had seven bridesmaids and seven groomsmen, each representing a different color. The ceremony was stunning; the weather was perfect, and the vibrant rainbow colors against the bluebird skies created a breathtaking scene. It was a joyful way for Mark and Kellie to celebrate their love and begin their life together.
Karen and I will celebrate 42 years of marriage this May. We are intentional about keeping love at the center of our relationship, though it looks different from Mark and Kellie’s. Ours is a mature love, built on deep understanding and years of shared experiences. We make it a priority to set aside time just for us—to focus on each other and support one another’s needs.
Karen’s parents have been married for 72 years, and my parents for 70 years! Their love is even deeper—after so many decades together, they are almost like one person. They instinctively understand each other’s thoughts, needs, and emotions, having shared a lifetime of experiences.
Each of these types of love requires effort, patience, and dedication. I love my kids and grandkids, but it wasn’t until I became a grandparent that I truly understood the unique and special love that comes with that role.
Above all, I love the Lord. His love is unconditional—a love unlike any other. While human love often requires effort and commitment, His love is freely given to everyone. Have you ever tried to love unconditionally? It’s not always easy, but striving to love others as He does is a worthy goal.
I also love my real estate family and the incredible team we’ve built with a shared purpose: to serve others. Be sure to check out a later blog to learn more about our team.
As we approach Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to reflect on the different kinds of love in your life and how we can all love each other better.
With much love,
Scott
